Injections at Pinnacle Pain Management

Injections can be used by your doctor to diagnose the source of your pain or treat the source of your pain by Injections certain areas of your body with medications, usually local anesthetic and steroids.

Demand for these injections is rapidly increasing.  Success with these procedures is improved with the use of X-ray guidance, which can shorten and simplify procedures, crease the risk of complications and help pin point needle placement to the source of pain.

The procedure can help relieve pain in the back, legs, neck, arms and other painful areas by reducing inflammation.

Injections will not stop all of your pain, but can reduce pain and break the pain cycle.  By reducing pain and inflammation, the injection may help to speed recovery and get you back on your feet sooner.  Some people may feel more relief form an injection than others.  Some people may need more than one injection or different types of Injections to get relief.

Where the medication is injected depends on the goal of the injections.  Injections can be directed near nerves or joints in your spine. Steroid and numbing medications are often deposited into areas in an effort to decrease inflammation.  In certain pain conditions only numbing medications are used to help locate the source of the pain.

Our well trained anesthesiologists are available to administer varying degrees of sedation to those needing injections.  Twilight sleep provides a more pleasant experience with little to no memory of the experience and near painless procedures.

Most major insurance accepted. Download new patient and pre-procedure forms on the forms page.

Injection Procedure

The injection is often done in an outpatient surgery center. Before your injection, a comprehensive pain focused evaluation is completed at Pinnacle Pain Management.

Getting Ready

You may need to stop taking some of your medications before the injection, such as aspirin, ibuprofen or Coumadin.

Do not drink or eat for 8 hours before your scheduled procedure.

Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home after the procedure, especially if sedation is given.

Before, During and After Procedure

At check-in, you will be asked to complete some forms.  You will be interviewed by a nurse.  An IV(intravenous) line will be placed to administer fluids and sedation medicine.  The injection may take a few minutes to one hour to complete, depending on the complexity of the procedure.

Your may be given sedation Medicine to help you relax and provide a near painless experience.  Medicine is also given to numb the skin near the injection site.

If x-ray imaging (Fluoroscoy) is to be used, a contrast “dye” may be injected.  This helps to insure the medication will be directed to the areas through to cause your pain.

A local anesthetic, steroid or both are injected near the areas thought to cause your pain in order to reduce inflammation, improved blood flow and to promote healing.

After the procedure, you will spend up to an hour in the recovery area.  When you get home you do not need to stay in bed.  Walk around if you feel up to it.  Your may want to sleep, which may be a residual effect of the sedation.

All patients are followed closely after the injection with a follow up visit with he doctor soon after the procedure.
